3 simple ways to get subscribers from LinkedIn

Top newsletter creators do this

TLDR;

Using LinkedIn to grow your newsletter subscriber base can be highly effective through pre-promotion, post-publication highlights, and LinkedIn’s own newsletter feature.

When I scroll through LinkedIn these days, I see so many posts that lead to newsletters of the creators.

I studied the posts and noticed a pattern - there are 3 major ways where the traffic from LinkedIn is drawn to newsletters:
- Before the newsletter is published
- After the newsletter is published
- LinkedIn newsletters

Getting subscribers from LinkedIn for your newsletter can be a highly effective strategy, given the platform’s large audience and its focus on professionals across various industries.

Today, we’ll look at some of these strategies.

P.S. I’ve linked some creators in the end who do this similarly - you can study their posts and be inspired!

Key Takeaways:
Get Subscribers through LinkedIn

  • Pre-Promotion:
Share snippets or address relevant problems before your newsletter launches to generate interest and attract subscribers.

  • Post-Publication:
After releasing your newsletter, share engaging summaries on LinkedIn to entice new readers and remind current subscribers of your content.

  • Utilize LinkedIn Newsletters:
Leverage LinkedIn’s newsletter feature to publish long-form content that showcases your expertise and boosts visibility.

  • Optimize Your Profile:
Update your LinkedIn profile to clearly communicate your newsletter’s value and include a direct sign-up link in the "Featured" section.

  • Focus on Building an Owned Audience:
Use LinkedIn to increase subscribers and transition your audience from a platform-controlled space to your own newsletter for better engagement and sales opportunities.

Before Publishing:

You can post on LinkedIn before your newsletter is published.

This can include sharing snippets of content or themes you’ll cover in the newsletter.

You can also target a specific problem and share a brief solution, enough to entice readers to know more. This way, you can get more subscribers for your profile.

You can also tap into the aspirational quality with a CTA for the audience to join your newsletter.

Justin Welsh does this often on his LinkedIn profile.

After Publishing:

After each issue of your newsletter is published, share highlights or a brief summary on LinkedIn.

This can entice those who didn’t subscribe yet and also serves as a reminder for your current audience to check out the latest edition. You can use an engaging caption like:

For instance, our case studies at Marketing Monk are repurposed as carousels after publication, where people can subscribe to get next updates as well.

This approach not only extends the life of your content but also positions your newsletter as a source of consistent value.

LinkedIn Newsletters:

LinkedIn allows you to publish long-form content through its newsletter feature.

Consider writing a condensed version of your newsletter and publishing it there.

This allows you to showcase your expertise, and they are often ranked highly in searches on the platform, giving your content more visibility.

P.S. You can similarly also use LinkedIn Articles - it allows for long-form content publication, where you can write about the crux of your newsletter topic and ask readers to visit your newsletter’s blog to read more.

Bonus: Profile Optimization

Your LinkedIn profile should clearly convey who you are and what your newsletter offers. Update your headline to mention the newsletter.

You should also consider adding a link to a sign-up form in your profile's “Featured” section. This makes it easy for anyone who visits your profile to subscribe.

Also, whenever you write on LinkedIn, use copywriting principles to have the right hook and easily-readable post - the content might be the same, but adjust the format according to the platform for max conversions.

Remember, LinkedIn has an algorithm but your newsletter doesn’t.

You can focus on increasing your followers on LinkedIn, but it works better as as a tactic to increase your subscribers.

This ensures that you have a variety of distribution channels and aren’t dependent on one.

It also moves your audience from a rented space to an owned space, making it ideal for selling your product/service or building a loyal community or both.
